Another Useful Idiot...

It seems the Milwaukee County Board (that's in Wisconsin, in case you are geographically challenged --  this statement will make sense when you watch the video...), in debating weighty issues like whether or not the County should boycott Arizona businesses it (the County) does business with, offered this bit of intelligent commentary by one of the County Supervisors, a nitwit named Peggy West:

The money quote:
If this was Texas, which is a state that is directly on the border with Mexico, and they were calling for a measure like this saying that they had a major issue with undocumented people flooding their borders, I would have to look twice at this. But this is a state that is a ways removed from the border...
Her fellow Supervisor, Joseph Rice (6th District), a Republican with a little better grasp of United States geography, and waiting until after she'd made a total fool of herself, then points out that Arizona does, indeed, share a border with the country of Mexico.

As an extra-bonus item, it turns out that, in addition to being a Milwaukee County Supervisor (12th District), this dimbulb, Peggy West, is on the Executive Committee of the Milwaukee Democratic Party...

Update: YouTube pulled the first video I linked to in this post, saying that someone had a "copyright issue" with its being on YouTube. I switched to a different link -- we'll see it THIS one stays up.  Regardless -- the woman is STILL an idiot!  ;-)

Update #2: The lefties that try to scrub YouTube clean of all things embarrassing to Democrats are busy -- they removed the SECOND video link I put up here.  Let's try a third link...

Right On Cue...

As a follow-up to what I posted three short days ago about the Democrats holding back $500 billion of the $787 "stimulus" money from February, 2009 to use in an attempt to try and influence this November's upcoming elections, and as new jobless claims climbed yet again last week to add a new weekly total of 472,000 to the swelling ranks of the unemployed, this news today (emphasis mine) from Politico.com:

BREAKING — OBAMA, BIDEN DECLARE “RECOVERY SUMMER”: Vice President Biden today will kick off “Recovery Summer,” a six-week-long push designed to highlight the jobs accompanying a surge in stimulus-funded projects to improve highways, parks, drinking water and other public works. Biden will present President Obama with a report laying out a spike in stimulus activity this summer, and how it will contribute to a steady climb to a total of 3.5 million Recovery Act jobs by the end of the year. Biden, Obama and other administration officials will travel to more than two dozen Recovery Act project sites in coming weeks. Tomorrow, the president will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to mark the groundbreaking of the 10,000th Recovery Act road project, around Nationwide Children’s Hospital. On Monday, Biden will travel to Midland, Mich., for the groundbreaking of the new Dow Kokam advanced battery manufacturing facility.
–David Axelrod said: “This summer will be the most active Recovery Act season yet, with thousands of highly-visible road, bridge, water and other infrastructure projects breaking ground across the country, giving the American people a first-hand look at the Recovery Act in their own backyards and making it crystal clear what the cost would have been of doing nothing. … In the face of the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, Republicans in Congress chose to play politics with economic recovery and declared the Recovery Act a failure before it even began. They made a cynical bet that if the President fails, they win. Democrats chose to act by tackling the crisis head-on. Just over a year later, the Recovery Act is putting millions of Americans to work and helping the economy grow again. But our work is far from over.”
Shameful, blatant political posturing.  "Create" jobs (all of which would appear to be temporary, "public works"-type jobs) and attempt to regain their phony political mantle of being "...for the little guy."

I called this three days ago, but I am amazed that it is coming to pass both so quickly and so palpably.

Remember these evil manipulators in November.

Yet Another “Emergency” ~ Obama Wants Even MORE Deficit Spending...

Why is President Obama asking for an additional $50 billion in “emergency” stimulus spending to “save the jobs” of one of the Democrats' core support groups, namely unionized public employees?

I know, I know -- dumb question...

It's a deliberate maneuver designed to keep the ever-increasing legions of so-called “public-sector employees” both fully employed -- high salaries, raises, benefits, and all -- and happy while those of us in the private sector have to contend with the very real world economic woes created by our “leaders” (term used exceedingly loosely, and with more than a hint of contempt...).

The $50 billion is actually a gift to organized labor -- The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the National Education Association (NEA), and the AFL-CIO.  You know -- Big Labor.  The same folks that just threw $10 million of their members' dollars in the toilet in their unsuccessful bid to unseat and punish Arkansas Democrat Senator Blanche Lincoln.  And, lest you think that's just me, gettin' all negative (a trait I've been accused of), here is the quote from Slate.com (an extreme left-wing outlet, BTW), citing an unnamed “senior administration official:”

“...organized labor just flushed $10 million of their members' money down the toilet on a pointless exercise. If even half that total had been well-targeted and applied in key House races across this country, that could have made a real difference in November. ”
But I digress...

Obama sent a letter to Congressional leaders this past Saturday asking them to quickly approve this new "emergency spending" to, as he put it, avoid:

“...massive layoffs of teachers, police and firefighters.”
It never ends, does it?

The BS, I mean.

What about the balance of last year's $787 billion stimulus (porkulus) package? You know -- the one that Obama said the Congress MUST pass immediately in February, 2009 or else the unemployment rate would climb to over 8%?

Well... THAT part of the hopey-changey thing hasn't worked out real well now, has it?  Nationally, the unemployment rate is 9.7%, but that is artificially low because the government hired over 411,000 temporary workers to “work” taking the Constitutionally-mandated census.  The figure is ALSO artificially low for reasons I pointed out back on June 4th.

Back to 2009's $787 billion stimulus package -- of the total amount, $500 billion was never spent.

Let me type that s l o w l y so that you can read it s l o w l y :

$500 BILLION of the $787 BILLION “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” (a.k.a. “stimulus” or “porkulus” package) hasn't been spent.  Yet.

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, cats and dogs, and ships at sea...

The Democrats "back loaded" the porkulus package stimulus bill nearly a year and a half ago, meaning that the majority of the spending is, and always has been by design, slated to take place between now and next November's elections.

It's the Democrats' “secret weapon;” their “ace in the hole,” so to speak, to help them in their attempt to buy electoral success in the upcoming elections.  A good chunk of those $500 billion unspent dollars is available to flood the economy in the next +/-140 days, so they can say (or, so the plan is for them to be able to say), “See?  The economy is improving!  We're creating and saving jobs!  We're so wonderful!  Vote for us!”

The Democrats' passed their pay-as-you-go legislation (PAYGO) and Obama signed it this past February.  Under the law, all increases in spending are supposed to be offset either by cuts somewhere else or by tax increases.  Obama, getting in one of his countless "blame-Bush" swipes, after signing the bill said in his weekly radio address:

“Now, Congress will have to pay for what it spends, just like everybody else.  After a decade of profligacy, the American people are tired of politicians who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to fiscal responsibility. It’s easy to get up in front of the cameras and rant against exploding deficits. What’s hard is actually getting deficits under control. But that’s what we must do.”
Continuing to bash Bush, The One went on:

“It was the abandonment of this rule that allowed the previous administration and previous congresses to pass massive tax cuts for the wealthy and create an expensive new drug program without paying for any of it...
The only problem is that any spending that the politicians call “emergency” spending is exempted from PAYGO requirements.

That's what led to Republican Senator Jim Bunning being vilified last February by both the Democrats and their water carriers in the press for “blocking unemployment” when, in fact, he was simply saying that, under PAYGO, the unemployment extension should be, and could be paid for with existing funds. The Democrats' faux outrage (once more abetted by their media enablers) was repeated again in late March when Republican Senator Tom Coburn was branded as the next eeeeeeevil Republican trying to “block unemployment” when he, like Bunning before him, was simply saying that, again under PAYGO, the latest unemployment extension should be, and could be, paid for with existing monies.

Why has every unemployment extension bill been an “emergency” bill when there is this HUGE untapped pool of federal dollars created nearly a year and a half ago?  Why is Obama's latest urgent plea to Congress yet another “emergency?”

The answer is simple -- the Democrats care not one whit for the unemployed, or so-called job-creation.

This is, and always has been, about power.

And Democrats retaining it.

At all costs.

Literally.

That money is needed to help them to attain that goal; the public be damned.

The fly in the ointment here is the embarrassingly inept “handling” of what is the largest environmental disaster we have ever seen by our golfing, vacationing, partying, hob-nobbing with Paul McCartney, looking-for-someone's-ass-to-kick, (did I mention golfing?) empty-suit-in-chief and his political cronies AND their blatant attempt to politicize this disaster to further their goal of enacting the Global Warming bill, Cap and Trade legislation, now re-named American Power Act.

Citing the Gulf oil disaster, The Chosen One will push hard in his teleprompter address to the Nation tomorrow night for enactment of his next socialist power-grab, the re-christened yet same-old, same-old American Power Act.  Going to Las Vegas?  You can bet on it.

Let us pray that the electorate hasn't been dumbed down to the extent that they actually buy into these subterfuges by the social engineers that seem hell-bent on destroying our once-proud nation and replacing it with their vision of progressivism/socialism.

Remember in November.

And Now, A Moment Of Silence...

Thankfully, today is Primary Election day, 2010.

The day long looked forward to as the day my phone will go silent.

The politicians, trying to compensate for the ridiculously high cost of advertising here in California, and in an attempt to make their campaign dollars go ever-further, seem to have ALL discovered the use of "robo-calls" AT ONCE this particular election cycle.

I must be a V.I.P., though --

In the past couple of weeks, I've been called by Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Meg Whitman, Steve Poizner, Tom McClintock, Sarah Palin... I even got calls from ol' "never-complete-a-term-he'd-been-elected-for-in-an-office-he'd-been-elected-to-so-he-could-run-for-yet-another-elective-office-that-he'd-vowed-not-to-run-for" Pete Wilson, himself... oh, brother...

I was crushed when I learned that Sarah Palin called 649,999 other likely California voters, and not just me...

I have literally been getting 8-10 (some days even more) of these intrusive, damned phone calls by automated phone banks urging me to vote this way or that, for this candidate or that, for or against this or that statewide proposition...

...it has been truly maddening!  I even picked up the phone yesterday (I usually just let my answering machine "screen" out these political calls) and screamed at the recording, "...one more... ONE MORE of these damned calls and you will drive me to NOT VOTE!"

Of course the pre-recorded message droned on, undeterred by my rant.  I felt foolish afterward for yelling at a recorded message.  It was kind of like swearing at the coffee table after you've stubbed your toe on it.  The coffee table doesn't care.  Like the political message, the table just carries on...

So today, I have one blessed day of telephone silence, and I am already enjoying it.  I may prepare a pork roast in celebration.  If I were still a drinking man, I'd open a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold.

The damned phone will start ringing off the hook again tomorrow... all the way to next November's General Election, so I savor these few hours of phone silence bliss.

Numbers Game

You can always tell when we're in the middle of an election cycle --

The stuff that comes out of the southbound end of a northbound bull just gets deeper and deeper.

Consider:

Today's release of "official" May job numbers.

The government is cheering the "creation" of 431,000 new jobs in May.  Legacy media outlets are climbing aboard the "Happy Days Are Here Again" train.

Just a couple of minor problems --

Temporary government jobs accounted for 95% of the increase; temporary census jobs accounted for 411,000 of the announced increase of 431,000 jobs in May.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (yet another worthless government entity that cost taxpayers a cool $645.4 million this year alone -- the Internal Revenue Service already creates the numbers that the BLS "re-creates") has invented an odd method of "creating" jobs -- they call it the Current Employment Statistics (CES) Net Birth/Death Model (only bureaucrats could invent something like this...).  Their calculations, based upon this CES Net Birth/Death Model, somehow show an additional 215,000 jobs "created" in May.

Additionally, government figures show another 31,000 jobs "created" in the "temporary help services" sector (think Gulf of Mexico oil disaster clean-up helpers and similar temporary "jobs").

Now... stay with me.  This is (I am sure by governmental design) a little complicated.

Government reports the "creation" of 431,000 jobs in May.  Of those, 411,000 are temporary government positions created by the 2010 Census effort.

So... 431,000 minus 411,000 = 20,000 real jobs added to the economy.

But wait.  There's more.

20,000 minus the 215,000 non-existent "jobs" magically "created" by the Bureau of Labor Statistics' number crunchers =  <195,000> jobs "created."  <195,000> minus the non-existent 31,000 "jobs" claimed in "temporary help services" = <226,000>.

That's right --

The United States actually LOST 226,000 jobs last month, despite the rosy scenario our increasingly-desperate Democrat "leadership" is trying to paint for us.

Additionally, 322,000 people stopped looking for work in May, which, despite the huge increase in actual jobs lost, contributed to the national unemployment rate ticking down two tenths of a percent from 9.9% to 9.7%.

As the Census winds down, the rate of "job creation" will again decline dramatically, driving the national unemployment rate higher once again.  Just in time for the elections.

Add to that the sheer ineptitude displayed in the government's handling bungling of the Gulf oil disaster coupled with the obvious contempt the Democrats have for "We, the people" - examples:

  • Pushing through healthcare "reform" that a large majority of Americans were adamantly opposed to, STILL oppose even after its passage, and want to see repealed.
  • The ongoing attacks on the state of Arizona for enacting a law on the state level that replicates EXISTING Federal law, albeit less harshly.  Despite a majority of Americans supporting the Arizona law (and a "super majority" -- 70% -- of Arizonans supporting it), Obama and the Democrats continue to trash the Arizona law and blatantly -- disgustingly play the "race card" in their transparent effort to woo Hispanic voters.
  • The "never waste a good crisis" mindset of Obama's string-pullers to try and capitalize on the BP oil disaster and use it to ram through their economy and job-killing Global Warming Bill -- er... Cap and Trade Legislation -- er... the now-renamed American Power Act
  • The push to grant amnesty to 12-20+ million law breakers DESPITE the vast majority of Americans wanting the border controlled BEFORE attempting to address the problem of the multitudes of miscreants flooding into and residing illegally in our country.
  • The Obami attempting to resurrect yet again their tired "blame Bush" mantra to explain away all things negative.
Not exactly what the distressed Democrats want to see as we inch ever closer to November.

This November, we MUST begin to erase the horrid national mistake made by the electorate in 2008.  Not to sound overly dramatic but, nothing less than the fate of the nation hangs in the balance.

I Used To Like Paul McCartney

Before he started to think that what he thought actually matters to mere commoners...

Paul McCartney.

Images of the Beatles.

From the innocuous "I Want To Hold Your Hand" to the drug-laden "Revolution # 9."

"She Loves You" to "Let It Be."

"I Saw Her Standing There" to "Hey Jude."

Ahhh... The Beatles.

The shock of John Lennon's long-ago and senseless murder.  The sadness of George Harrison's death -- far too young -- from cancer.  The good fortune of Richard Starkey -- er... Ringo Starr, undoubtedly the luckiest no-talent drummer on the face of the planet, who found himself in the right place at the right time in the early 1960s.

And now, the embarrassment of "Sir" Paul McCartney joining the ranks of the extremely self-important.  Rarefied air, that.  Rubbing elbows with the likes of spellcheck-challenged Barbra Streisand, Hugo Chavez/Fidel Castro-loving Danny Glover, Bush-hater Sean Penn, "If Bush is elected, I'm leaving the country" Alec Baldwin, Bush-basher Matt Damon, left-wingers Tim Robbins and his former "significant other," Susan Sarandon, hater Janeane Garofalo -- oh wait, she's not even a celebrity, just a foul-mouthed, ugly little person...

...the list, sadly, goes on and on.

Celebrities who think that their celebrity status means that their views are somehow important to the rest of us.

Now, the 67 year-old former heart throb has seen fit to inject himself into American politics.

Regarding the grand American experiment called Barack Hussein Obama, which doesn't seem to be going so well these days, Sir Paul admonished,

“I’m a big fan, he’s a great guy. So lay off him, he’s doing great.”
Well.

There you have it.  Straight from the top.  Obama's a "great guy."  Thanks, Paul -- I never would've realized...  And thanks for the observation that "...he's doing great."  Oh wait.  I get it.  Good to see you still have that wry British sense of humor, eh?

Then, last night, the former fab-four member (say THAT fast six times...) had to get in a dig at...

...hope you are seated

wait for it...

Former President George W. Bush.

After receiving the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from The One President Obama, the former moptop quipped,

“After the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is.”

Maybe, in a parallel universe, there are celebrities who entertain, rather than try to dazzle us with their political acumen.

Can I move there?

Israel Set Up Once Again...

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection has a wonderful take on the "useful idiots" and their enablers in the media who are automatically condemning Israel for intercepting those Turkish ships bound for the Gaza Strip.

Make no mistake -- this was NOT a "humanitarian mission."  It was a PR stunt; a "set-up," if you will, by the Islamists now in control in Turkey.  Why does our left-wing media buy into the continual anti-Israel bias?  (my emphasis added) --

The left-wing blogosphere is full of useful idiots, who pretend that the flotilla which just was stopped by Israel was a humanitarian mission.
The flotilla was organized by the Islamist government in Turkey to aid Hamas with the goal of opening up shipping channels for Turkey's new friend, Iran, to ship more and better weapons as it is doing to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iran is busy turning Lebanon and Syria into one large missile launching pad against Israel, and a southern base in Gaza will complete the encirclement of Israel for the coming crisis over Iran's nuclear program.
The Europeans on the ships were cover, and the placement of an 18-month old child on these ships was the utmost cynical use of a human shield.

If getting humanitarian supplies to Gaza really was the goal, this flotilla was not necessary. The supplies would have been off-loaded in Eqypt or Israel and then shipped in by land after being checked for hidden weapons.
